The ambitious Lancashire, Derbyshire & East Coast Railway was a latecomer (1896) and was therefore fully signalled from its opening.

SkellingthorpePage includes views of lever frame

Boxes on the eastern portion of the line were built by the Railway Signal Company to a unique design only found here. These featured tall, four-pane high windows with plain bargeboards on the gabled roof.

At the other end of the line, Saxby & Farmer erected the boxes. Although similar to the Railway Signal Company examples in many respects, they featured three-pane high windows and elegant carved bargeboards,

No further boxes are believed to have been built prior to being absorbed by the Great Central in 1907.
