2012

Salisbury to Exeter

Control of line to be transferred to Basingstoke. The following boxes to be close: Gillingham, Templecombe, Yeovil Junction, Chard Junction, Honiton and Feniton. Salisbury remains for now.

TCB (with axle counters in some places) will replace the Tokenless block system currently in use.

Castleford

Cutsyke Junction to be abolished

Droitwich-Stourbridge-Kinsgwinsford

Hartelbury Station, Kidderminster Junction, Blakedown, Stourbridge Junction Middle and Kinswinsford Junction South to be abolished.

Bletchley PSB to close, area to be controlled from Rugby SCC.

Rugby PSB to close, area to be controlled from Rugby SCC.

Stalybridge box to close, signalling controlled from Manchester East.

Prescot box to be abolished. Area will be controlled by St Helens station.

Swindon "B" box to close

East Kent

The first stage of the East Kent resignalling project is to take place, with new signalling controlled from a new box at Gillingham (prefix EK) which was built in 1994 but never brought into use (and has been used since then as a Network Rail document store).

Boxes to be abolished:
Faversham (1959). Box is not to be demolished, panel destined for the National Railway Museum, York.
Margate (1913)
Ramsgate (1926)
Canterbury East (c1911). Although intended to be demolished, last-minute attempts are being made to get the building listed).
Shepherdswell (1878). Box intended to be removed to the nearby East Kent Railway for preservation.

Fringe boxes will be Sittingbourne, Minster and Folkestone

July 2012

Gosberton

Box renewed around July. Old box demolished.

August 2012

Hartlebury to Kingswinsford

August Bank Holiday w/e 2012.

Hartlebury Station, Kidderminster Junction, Churchill & Blakedown, Stourbridge Middle and Kingswinford to close and be resignalled/recontrolled to Stourbridge Work Station in West Midlands Signalling Centre.

Fringe Boxes will be Droitwich Spa and Kidderminster Station [SVR]

Leeds-Harrogate

Horsforth and Rigton signal boxes to be abolished.

Littlehaven

Littlehaven gate box to be abolished, crossing to be controlled from Three Bridges.

This sees the abolition of one of very few wheel-operated gated crossings on the former Southern Region.

Madeley Junction box abolished.

Polmont

Polmont (NX Panel) abolished. Area now controlled from Edinburgh IECC.

Millerhill (panel) box abolished. Area now controlled from Edinburgh IECC.

Immingham

Immingham East Junction box closed. This box was 99 years of age, and contained a BPRS slide frame. The sole operational survivor of the type is now at Immingham Reception Sidings.

Ely to Norwich

Resignalling between Ely and Norwich is planned and will see the abolition of Shippea Hill, Lakenheath, Brandon, Thetford, Harling Road, Eccles Road, Attleborough, Spooner Row and Wymondham signal boxes.

This resignalling scheme is one of the two pilot schemes for "Modular Signalling".

Several level crossings along the line are intended to be controlled through the new technology of "Obstacle Detection".

Shippea Hill, Lakenheath, Brandon and Thetford closed 19/8/12 with Harling Road becoming a temporary fringe box.

Harling Road, Eccles Road, Attleborough, Spooner Row and Wymondham closed on 1/12/12.
