Signalling alterations: 2015

2015

East Midlands Resignalling.

Construction of the new East Midlands Signalling Centre has begun at Derby, on the former St Andrews goods yard.

Stage 1 has seen the abolition of the Midland Railway boxes at Pinxton and Sleights Sidings East and transfer of control of part of the Erewash valley from Trent PSB. Both boxes closed on 9th June 2007 - happily both have been preserved.

Stage 2A commenced on 9th October 2009 with resignalling from Trowell junction through to Trent Junction - this rsulted in the closure of Stapleford & Sandiacre Shunting Frame. Stage 2B will be completed over Christmas with the abloition of Lock Lane Crossing Frame.

Subsequent stages will result in the closure of the PSBs at Trent, Leicester, West Hampstead and Derby and abolition of all mechanical boxes on the Syston - Peterborough, Derby - Stoke-on-Trent, Nottingham - Newark and Nottingham - Grantham lines.

Bournemouth to Weymouth

Resignalling of Dorset Coast line will see the abolition of Poole, Hamworthy, Wareham and Wool in 2013. Area to be controlled from Basingstoke Area Signalling Centre.

Absolute Block working will be replaced by Track Circuit block using Axle Counters in some places.

In 2015, Dorchester box will close and the control of the area will be transferred to Wessex Regional Operations Centre at Basingstoke.

Rochester to Sittingbourne

Signal boxes at Rochester, Gillingham, Rainham and Sittingbourne to be abolished, area to be controlled from North Kent Regional Operations Centre at Gillingham.

Nottingham-Fiskerton

Lowdham, Fiskerton Junction and Staythorpe Crossing signal boxes to be abolished, along with gate cabins at Fiskerton Station and Rolleston Station. Area to be controlled from East Midlands Regional Operations Centre at Derby.

Strood-Maidstone (Medway Valley line)

Cuxton, Aylesford, Maidstone West, East Farleigh and Wateringbury signal boxes to be abolished, area to be controlled from North Kent Regional Operations Centre at Gillingham.

Stockton-Hartlepool

Norton South, Norton West, Norton East, Norton-on-Tees, Billingham, Belasis Lane and Greatham to be abolished, area to be controlled by LNE Regional Operations Centre at York.

Ryhope Grange

Ryhope Grange box to be abolished, area to be controlled by LNE Regional Operations Centre at York.

Finningley-Gainsborough-Barnetby

Beckingham, Gainsborough Trent Junctions, Gainsborough Central, Northorpe, Kirton Lime Sidings and Brigg signal boxes to be abolished, area to be controlled from Lincoln Signalling Control Centre.

Sheffield PSB to close, area to be controlled by LNE Regional Operations Centre at York.

Aston SCC and Lichfield Trent Valley Junction to close.

Liverpool Lime Street box to be abolished, area to be controlled from West Coast North Regional Operations Centre at Manchester.

Crewe-Chester

Crewe Steel Works and Beeston Castle & Tarporley boxes to be abolished, area controlled from Crewe Signalling Centre.

Lewes-Newhaven

Lewes, Newhaven Town and Newhaven Harbour boxes to close, area to be controlled from Sussex Regional Operations Centre at Three Bridges.

Tondu

Tondu box to close, area to be controlled from South Wales Regional Operations Centre at Cardiff.

Norwich-Lowestoft and Yarmouth

Brundall Junction, Acle, Yarmouth Vauxhall, Cantley, Reedham JunctionOulton Broad North Junction and Lowestoft boxes to be abolished. Area to be controlled from Anglia Regional Operations Centre at Romford.

The Swing Bridge boxes at Reedham and Somerleyton are to be retained.

Oxford PSB to close, area to be controlled from Thames Valley Regional Operations Centre at Didcot.

Gresty Lane box to be abolished, area to be controlled from West Coast South Regional Operations Centre at Rugby.

Willesden Carriage Shed South and Willesden Carriage Shed North boxes to close, area to be controlled from West Coast South Regional Operations Centre at Rugby.
